Credit card processing involves many things, such as the verification of the consumer's credit card number, expiry date, and other data connected with credit cards.

If you are a beginner in business, free credit card processing services would be an ideal option for you. Unlike regular credit card processing, you don't have to pay for expensive credit card processing software, customer service fees, a secure server, minimum transaction fees, and monthly gateway fees when using free credit card processing.

Most free credit card processing companies charge only a nominal fee per transaction or a monthly percentage fee. Therefore, free processing helps you save a significant amount of money every month. However, this does not work well when merchant accounts are involved. Regular credit card processing involves the payment of a statement fee, a minimum fee, a discount fee, and a license fee, in addition to start-up fees.

If you opt to go with free credit card processing, it is advisable that you visit a credit processing firm to learn what kind of transactions are generally done in credit card processing. Third party credit card processing companies can be a good resource for those who are looking for a less expensive means to accept credit cards online. They normally offer free credit card processing services. Their merchant account doesn?t charge any fee for many transactions, including phone, fax, retail, mail, Internet, or wireless businesses.

Lots of free credit card processing companies do not entail creating your own merchant account. Today, many online businesses make use of free credit card processing. They include CCBill, iBill, V-Share, and ShareIt. From a new piece of
furniture to a car or even a house an age old problem stands in
their way: MONEY – or rather how to get hold of it.

A lucky few earn enough to never have to worry about this
problem. Many more consumers have lenders simply falling over
themselves with offers of credit. For a lot of people, however,
a poor credit history or a low credit rating stands as an
inexorable difference between living the life they want, and
looking with perpetual envy at their neighbor. Even relatively
low cost essentials, such as a vacuum cleaner or television set,
can be too expensive if a way of spreading the initial cost is
not available.

But it doesn’t have to be that way. Credit is available for
those with a lower credit scores, but better still: Borrowing
even relatively small amounts can be a great way for borrowers
with a "chequered past" to improve their credit rating. A better
credit score can lead to an array of greater awards in the
future, including better APR deals and larger credit lines. If
you have a poor credit rating and dreams of one day buying a
house, a credit card is the first logical step to pulling up
your record and getting a mortgage.

Making regular monthly payments to an agreed timescale on a
credit card is – short of scooping a massive inheritance from a
long lost millionaire aunt – one of the single best ways to
improve your credit score. So long as you don’t take on more
debt than you can afford, credit cars are ideal: payments are
reasonably sized and flexible, and if you budget properly can be
structured towards an ultimate payoff

Moreover, you have to be wise to how credit card companies
work. Credit cards are designed by financial institutions as a
way to keep you making minimum payments for years to come – and
enslaved to large interest payments from which they make many of
their profits. Borrow only what you can, and pay back the debt
as quickly as possible.

Of course, even when dealing with the very best lenders, trying
to secure credit card financing with a lower credit rating does
throw up some problems.

Financial institutions will usually insist on a higher interest
rate and sometimes may even ask for a guarantor. The interest
rate can be up to three times what a good credit borrower would
be offered, although in these days of low interest rates, that
need not be prohibitively expensive.

Always try and walk before you run. If you have a high interest
rate on your credit card, borrow sparingly and pay back quickly.
That way you’ll build up your credit score and be able to get
cheaper APR in the future, making larger purchases then far
cheaper over the fullness of time. If you make a large purchase
at a high interest rate and can only pay back the minimum
payment each month, with interest charges you could be paying as
little as just one of half of a percent of the existing balance
each month.

Always keep you balance under control. It can be easy to let
your credit card spending run in excess of what you had planned.
If you have concerns that you might do so, ask the lender to
impose an easily manageable credit limit. That way you won’t
spend a dime more than you can afford. The worst time to gain
unmanageable balance is when interest rates are at their
highest. Do that and it can seem like a lifetime before you get
things back under control.

High-risk borrowers should always exercise extreme caution
before entering into any financial obligation. Before even
thinking about taking on any new financial obligation, consider
your budget and ask yourself how much – if anything – you can
afford. If you decide that you can, you should still be careful
about choosing the right deal.

However, if you can get a credit card that you can manage well,
the benefits are enormous. It will enable you to spread the cost
of larger purchases over manageable periods of time; you can
fill holes in your budget (that are so common in the run up to
pay day); and build up a credit history that will enable you to
get better APR on borrowings and allow you to borrow money for
larger items.

An auto loan or mortgage may seem a distant dream for many
Americans with poor credit histories, but everybody has to start
off somewhere. Get a credit card, manage it well, and you’ll
soon get to where you want.

About the Author: Max Hunter is the author of many credit
related articles. This is because many consumers make their purchases using their credit cards, and establishments who do not accept credit card payments risks losing potential sales. Given this, it is then essential for any company that intends to sell products in the market to make sure that their stores can accept credit payments. There’s good news, though! Today, accepting credit cards is usually a fairly easy process because companies can gain access to the tools that they need to be able to process credit card payments from a number of sources.

Setting up a merchant account

The first step in accepting credit cards is setting up a merchant account. This will involve locating the right merchant account provider or credit card processor. Many businesses do this through the banks where they do their business banking. However, not all banks provide credit card processing services.

A good source of information is any trade associations that a business belongs to, which may have negotiated rates with a certain credit card processor that the business could contact. Another good source of leads is from other businesses that already accept credit card payments. On the other hand, given that most processors aggressively pursue clients especially start up companies, it is most likely that these processors will contact new business owners and offer them their services.

In deciding on which credit card processor to use, it is a good idea to employ canvassing strategies, which includes interviewing each credit processor and asking them questions that can help business owners pick the right processor. Some of these questions include asking them about their fees, their rates, and other services that they provide their clients. After which, business owners then should analyze which processor can give them the best deal for the credit card processing services that they are offering.

Nowadays, no business establishment should be without credit card processing capabilities. This is because given that most people make many of their purchases using their credit cards, establishments that do not accept credit card payments risk losing a significant number of sales. The good news is that today, the tools that businesses need to be able to accept credit card payments, which includes merchant accounts, are easily accessible, as there are a large number of companies that provide credit card processing services. [http://www.i-CreditCardProcessing.com]Credit Card Processing provides detailed information on Credit Card Processing, Online Credit Card Processing, Credit Card Processing Software, Wireless Credit Card Processing and more. This goes hand in hand with our members’ commitment
to responsible lending.”

The website tries to give the types of features which people
should look for when choosing a card depending on their usual
patterns of spending behaviour, such as, people who regularly
clear their balance each month would be best advised that
interest rates may be of less importance than whether there is
an annual fee or a rewards programme associated with a
particular card.

Other help given by the site includes details on how credit
cards work, what happens during application procedures, advice
on the responsible use of credit cards, and what to do if you
find yourself in trouble with debt.

What the site doesn’t attempt is to look at specific cards to
compare rates and benefits, therefore consumers will still need
to consult tables in newspapers or financial comparison websites
such as Moneynet, if they are to make truly informed decisions.

These days there are so many sources of information available
which quickly enable financial products to be judged side by
side that there is no real excuse for consumers to suffer from
exorbitant rates of interest or inferior services, but the
public needs to take an interest in their own finances if they
are not going to be taken for a ride.

Resources:
Credit card advice - choosingandusing.com (
http://www.choosingandusing.com/ )
Credit card comparisons - Moneynet (
http://www.moneynet.co.uk/credit-card/index.shtml )

About the Author: Richard lives in Edinburgh, occasionally
writing for the personal finance blog Cashzilla (
http://cashzilla.blogspot.com/ ), and wonders why lisp is so
difficult for sufferers to say.

Source: http://www.isnare.com

My Credit Card Machines 802

Merchant Credit Card Services
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Alison_Cole]Alison Cole

Studies have shown that you can increase your business sales manifold if you accept credit card payments from your customers. This is because most people are not like to carry cash around, and so using their debit card or credit card is their preferred mode of payment. Suppose, you own an online store where people can make orders by the click of the mouse. It follows naturally that you should be also in a position to accept credit card payments online. Then there may be situations where the people would prefer to make their orders by phone. There are companies that give a toll free number and the people can place their orders and give their credit card information based on voice prompts.

To accept credit card payments, you need to have an online merchant account with any financial institution, bank, or acquiring institutions. These institutions will deposit the money accepted through a website into your account. Apart from getting a merchant account, you must also get a payment gateway. As the name itself suggests, the payment gateway is a gateway, actually a code, which processes and validates the credit card information by sending the information provided to the credit card company and gets an accept or decline message. On getting the accept message, the gateway then transmits the amount from the website to the merchant account.

Address verification is the most important aspect of credit card services, as it is essential to fight against credit card fraud. Some credit card companies ask for the CID or the credit card identification digits.

Software such as the IC Verify (DOS winpopup), PCAuthorize (Windows), or MacAuthorize (Mac) These software are required to process the credit cards.

As a merchant, you can accept credit card information on your own website or on the website of the acquiring institutions, with whom you have your merchant account. These institutions charge a nominal fee for their services, but the increase in sales is well worth the investment. Do you actually know what happens whenever the merchant swipes your card into their point of sales (POS) system?

First, you hand your items to the cashier for him to compute the total amount of the items you purchased. The cashier then requests for your credit card. Your credit card is swiped on the POS system and the amount is registered into the device.

The POS system then sends an authorization request to your credit card company to validate the transaction. Although the total amount of your transaction has been sent, the credit is not yet deducted from your account at this moment. When the transaction is permitted, the credit is still not recorded. The amount of the purchase is simply reserved. A reply is sent to the POS system at the store informing if the transaction is valid or not.

If your transaction is approved, the POS system prints out a receipt for you. The cashier will give the receipt for you to sign, as this would be their means to reimburse the transaction from the bank. During closing time, or whenever the store makes inventory and match the daily transactions, a person at the store would be assigned to match all the recorded transactions in the POS system with the receipts that they have.

If everything turns out well, the store would then send a request to the bank for reimbursements for the transactions. The bank then sends a request to the credit card companies for each of the transactions that the store made. The credit card company would give the amount due to the bank but deduct an inter charge fee for each transactions. The amount collected by the bank is then deposited to the store’s account less a discount fee for the services rendered. You know how it goes. You register for a show, set up your booth, and over the course of the event you find that lots of customers want to buy your products. If you are stuck making change for cash payments or trying to decide whether to accept a personal check, you could spend a lot of time and lose many customers in the process. Those who prefer to pay by plastic will head to your competitors’ booths where they can swipe a card and be on their way in a few moments’ time. With a credit payment processor, you can be the one swiping the plastic and ringing up the sale. So how can you get set up to receive credit card payments at a trade show? It all starts with a merchant services account.

If you are exploring whether to accept credit card at trade show possibilities, you should consider opening a merchant services account. Many banks or other financial institutions offer this commercial-grade company account. They will often let you submit an application over the Internet at their Websites and get back to you with an answer in a day or two. When your application is approved, you can take advantage of the great financing options that the bank will provide in underwriting a credit processing account so that you can accept credit card payments from your customers either on-site or at a remote location, such as a trade show. Simply buy, lease, or rent a wireless credit processor and take it with you to the show. Your customers will love the convenience of using plastic over cash, and you will love adding up profits at the end of the day.

When you decide to accept credit card at trade show options, your journey into e-commerce should be smooth and clear. If a problem should arise, you can report it to the service technician who is responsible for maintaining your equipment. If you buy the unit outright, however, you may want to consider purchasing an accompanying service agreement in case a glitch should develop. Take your wireless unit to the trade show with you, set it up in a safe place where it won’t fall or get damaged, and put up a sign, if you have one, alerting customers to this credit paying option. If you also have a company Website, you may want to hand out fliers with your Web address on it so they can visit online to make additional purchases, using their credit card paying ability at that location as well, assuming you have set up your site to receive secure credit payments.

Going to the trade shows is a great way to see and be seen by customers and competitors. Reviewing and processing of a paper-based credit card application normally takes less than one week. But an online application is processed in less than two minutes. Once sanctioned, it normally takes a week to 10 days to obtain your credit card. It is important to note that there are application processing fees.

A credit card application processing system is tailored to meet the needs of your application processing requirements. There are manual and automated application processing systems. Many banks and financial agencies use manual solutions for handling the application, billing, payment and other functions. But the manual processing has some disadvantages such as extended application turnaround time, nonsystematic means of credit decisions, and inconsistent credit limit.

Automated systems are designed to automate the basic application processing and sanction process for the credit card business. Several software packages are available for automated processing services. Their common characteristics of automated processing include handling of paper-based or web-based applications, data capture and validation, exporting of data onto credit scoring platforms, archiving and storage of applications, safe online review and approval processes, and a mailroom facility for accepting, de-enveloping and sorting applications.

Credit card applications are available on the Internet. Many sales executives also provide them. Filling out an application is not a difficult task. You just need to complete several fields for which you already know the details such as name, address, annual income, occupation, etc. If you fill out all the required information, then there is no chance of rejecting the application by the issuer.

The credit rating is the most significant part of the application processing. A credit rating is maintained by the credit card bureaus, and it depends on the information received from various credit issuers over a period of time. A bad rating results in the rejection of the credit card application. In spite of
the disadvantages however, it is realistic to say that it is a
helpful tool for everybody to manage expenses. There’s no
denying it. Credit cards are one of the main tools in
purchasing goods and services today.

You can apply for credit cards directly to the credit card
companies by filing up their information and application
sheets. Thanks to technology, it plays its role again of
providing convenient and easy to use services.

You can now find and apply for credit cards online. By simply
clicking on your mouse, you can now have an access to different
credit card companies available in the internet. You can also
transact business from a multitude of banks available in the
network.

If you have an Internet connection at home, you have the
greatest advantage over other people. Almost a majority of the
banks features an online application system via the Internet.
One good thing about these banks is that they are willing to
approve the credit cards within 30 seconds or even less.

The process of online application is simple. After you
accomplish all the necessary prerequisites that you need to
furnish, the website will send you through email the result of
your application in just a few seconds.

In order for you to find out the types of credit cards that you
can avail, try to search in the net. You have plenty of options.
Every credit card company is obliged to post the entire copy of
their terms and conditions. You can also check on it on the
Internet. Some of the sites do not post their annual charges so
beware about this.

If your problem is your previous bad credit, worry no more
about it. Even in online credit card application, they offer a
special credit card for people with such status. Nevertheless,
there are certain restraints that are set for you unless you
recover from your bad credit record.

As of now, more and more people are applying for credit cards
online. Part of the reason for doing such is the speed and
convenience of doing so. Another reason is that, you can choose
from a wide variety of credit card companies. The sites are
providing all the possible names of the companies that offer
online credit card application.

Credit card application is easy. Everyday, an additional
website posts all the needed information in the net. Therefore,
you will have an access to a huge number of sites, if you want
to shop around, it will be easier for you.

After you have decided on which type of card you want to avail,
you click on the site of the credit card company and fill in
your details. You will be asked about your personal data of
course, be honest as possible in filing it for legality
purposes.

They will check your application, review it and do a credit
assessment. If they find all the information about yourself
satisfying and they believe in your credibility, they will
instantly accept your application. There are some rules that
you also need to comply with credit card online application.
You can find them online in their website. These rules vary
from one credit card company to another.

Like direct application of credit card in credit card
companies, always abide with the regulations that they set for
you. This is also same with your credit card application
online.

About the Author: Morgan Hamilton offers expert advice and
great tips regarding all aspects concerning Credit Cards.

Today there are different types of
credit card machines, and you can choose the one that is best
suited to your business needs.

The Wireless Credit Card Machine: For a mobile business, a
wireless credit card machine is the best option. The wireless
model is the most advanced credit card processing machine
available today, and also the most expensive one. It is
important to remember, however, that the area where you plan to
use the machine should have sufficient cellular coverage if you
decide to go the wireless route.

Credit Card Terminals That Can Handle Multiple Merchant
Accounts: Your business needs may require you to maintain
separate accounts for separate employees/service providers. For
such businesses, the multiple merchant accounts option is a
sensible one. The most commonly used credit card terminals that
can handle multiple merchant accounts include Nurit 2085, Nurit
3020, Nurit 3010, Nurit 8000, Omni 3750, Omni 3740, and the
Verifone Tranz 380x2.

The Terminal Without An Attached Printer: These machines
(without printers) are commonly used when mail ordering or
phone ordering is involved. When the business is run in a
mobile environment, and the credit card number is called in to
a central location where the number is keyed in, then too,
machines without printers are often used. Also, when your
business is a mobile one (landscaping, plumbing, locksmith),
yet the wireless machine is not feasible for you, then this
option is a very effective one. The printer-less credit card
machines are very cost-effective – prices can range from
$200.00 - $450.00 for a new machine, and $150.00 - $300.00 for
a refurbished unit. The Verifone Tranz 330 and Verifone Tranz
380 are two of the most popular machines in this category.

The Terminal With An Attached Printer: For your retail
business, this machine, which includes an integrated impact or
thermal printer, lets you issue a receipt to the customer at
the time of the sale. Also, in this category you can purchase
machines that have built in pinpads. It makes sense to have
this feature, because it lets you accept debit cards without
purchasing a separate pinpad. Though machines with integrated
printers are slightly more expensive that the credit card
processing machines that don't have attached printers, they are
priced reasonably. Well, there are multiple things to think about, but this article will discuss the 3 most important issues involved in that decision. If you abide by the guidelines discussed below, you'll find a great cage at a great price that you're truly happy with. There's a lot to think about - not just the dimensions of the cage and the spacing between the bars. However, that is a great place to start, so let us cover that first in this article.

Choosing the right size cage & also making sure the bar spacing is safe

This is the very first issue you need to consider when shopping for bird cages. You can't even look at the other details or features of a cage until you've determined it's the right size of cage and has the right bar spacing. As a general rule of thumb; the bigger the the cage is the better, as long as the bar spacing's not too wide. At our web store, we separate birds into 3 categories; small birds, medium birds, & large birds. These categories slightly overlap because some birds fit into the high end & the low end of 2 different categories. For example, Lovebirds fit into the small birds category, but they also fit into the medium birds category.

For your education, let us quickly give you the minimum dimensions & maximum bar spacing measurements for most species of birds:

Small birds (i.e. Finches, Canaries, and Parakeets) should be in a cage that is no smaller than 18"(W) x 18"(D) x 22"(H) and they should not have bar spacing that's wider than 1/2".

Slightly larger small birds (i.e. Cockatiels, Lovebirds, and smaller types of Conures) shouldn't be in a cage smaller than 20"(W) x 18"(D) x 24"(H) and they're bar spacing shouldn't be wider than 3/4".

Medium birds (i.e. most Conures, Timnehs, and smaller Amazons) should have a cage that's at least these dimensions; 22"(W) x 20"(D) x 28"(H) and should have bar spacing no wider than 1".

Large birds (i.e. Congo African Greys, most Amazons, smaller Cockatoos) should have a parrot cage that is at least 32" x 24"(D) x 30"(H) & the bar spacing should be no wider than 1".

The biggest of the big birds (i.e. large Macaws, large Cockatoos, Toucans, and Hyacinth) should be in a cage no littler than 38"(W) x 30"(D) x 48"(H) & they can get away with spacing that's up to 1-1/2" wide. Most large parrot cages feature 1" bar spacing & that is just fine.

If your species of bird isn't named above, just find a species above that's similar in size to your bird & follow the dimension & bar spacing guidelines shown.

Choosing a good quality cage & not spending more than you have to

This is another hard aspect to face. If you have owned a generic bird cage before, you know you do not want to go through that again. The majority of first time cage buyers get a very cheap, generic cage, but they usually don't make that mistake twice. Some of the top brand names around are Kings, Avian Adventures, Invision Cages, Animal Environments, California Cages, Cages By Design, Liberty Cages, Visionary Acrylic Cages, & HQ Cages. At our web store we offer what we consider to be the very best 3 brand names available, but we have heard good and bad about all of them. The reason we offer the cages we offer is for the following 3 solid reasons;

1. The manufacturer's stand behind their cages & warranties,

2. The materials used are truly tested safe for birds (most manufacturers do not do this), and

3. We've offered or seen every brand name listed & have decided what ones we think are the most solid. Most cages offered by the brand names listed above are within approximately the same price range, so you just have to look around & see what fits you budget & your bird's specific needs. A great place to do research is within online bird forums & bird discussion boards. You can talk with other bird owners who've tried the brand name you're considering & they will gladly offer feedback on the cage that you are looking at. We do offer a bird lover's forum & the website address is listed in my biography at the bottom of this article. I urge you to visit our forum and others on the web as well, they provide great insight into what cages would work best for you & your bird.

How to choose the best retailer to buy from

This is the third and final part of this article, but it's only listed last because of how important the 2 factors listed before it are. This too is a very important part f your decision making process. If you can find a reputable store front in your region that offers top brand name cages at decent prices then that may be a good place to start. However, you will probably find that most pet supply store fronts that are offline are either extremely high priced, or they do not have any true parrot cages at all - they strictly offer small economy boxed cages that aren't large enough for the smallest of birds. This is because local store fronts have a very tough time competing with the internet retailers. Local store fronts have multiple overhead costs that need be buried into their product prices, and online stores do not have much overhead at all. So once you look locally, you'll most likely be on the web cage shopping. Now that you are online, how do you decide who you can trust? That's a great question, and not an easy one to answer. There are a few really good indicators that you can use to make a good judgment on who the trustworthy web stores are; One of the ways is something we previously discussed; head to the bird forums - if other people had a pleasant experience with an online store, you're likely to as well. I also recommend checking the sites you visit for positive customer testimonials. Web sites that do not post positive customer feedback they've received, probably haven't received any positive feedback. If you had one single customer contact you to tell you how great of an experience they had, wouldn't you place that testimonial on your web store? The last way to help determine whether a business is solid or not is to make sure they take all major credit cards, and not strictly PayPal. A site that takes all major credit cards strictly through PayPal is a red flag in my opinion. You may be wondering why on earth that's a red flag, well consider this; if a web store takes all major credit cards and the credit card companies receive too many complaints from their customers, they can actually lose their credit card processing account. That's right, the credit card processing company will actually pull their account & not let them take credit cards anymore. This then forces that online retailer to strictly offer PayPal or Google Checkout as their payment method. All internet retailers should take all major credit cards, and if they do not, it may be because they have lost their credit card processing account because of excessive customer complaints. I'm not saying that a web store shouldn't accept PayPal as a payment method, they should, but they should also be taking credit cards directly through the store's shopping cart as well.

Well, we have now covered what I consider the big 3 issues to consider when choosing a cage for your new bird. Again, there are many other factors, but these are the most important in my opinion, and if you follow these guidelines you will be very pleased with the decision you make. Plus, your bird will be proud of the decision you make on his behalf!

Until next time, this is Dave Hermansen signing off. Well, not until now at least. The key to a stress-free tax season is being organized all year-round. Trying to organize a week before or, even worse, the night before April 15th is setting yourself up for failure.

Why You Should Organize for Tax Time

Organizing for tax time helps you avoid misplacing important receipts and documents. Your stress level will be lower because you won't be rushing around at the last minute trying to get to the tax preparer and/or post office. Being organized for tax time also helps you save money because you are more likely to keep track of deductions if you have a system and you won't be charged a higher fee for having your tax preparer go through your piles of receipts.

How and What To Organize for Tax Time

The only way to organize any object is to assign a home to it. Designate a filing cabinet or storage bin made to hold hanging folders for your year-round paper storage. Create folders for receipts, credit card and bank statements, etc. You will make a folder for anything you spend money on and need to keep track of for tax purposes. Have a filing schedule. I usually take one day a month to pay the monthly bills for my three businesses and to do all my filing. During the month, I put all my documents into one of two places until my filing day. This keeps everything organized with very little effort. I have one folder designated for current bills to be paid and then a lateral shelving unit that I stick everything else in for all three businesses and for my personal documents. No matter what, no less than once a month, I file everything from the shelving unit into my filing cabinet in the appropriate folder.

Now, where do we file our papers? Each year, you should designate a large accordion envelope or section of your filing cabinet to your tax papers. Some of the tax papers you will be filing will include your W2s, 1099s, mortgage interest statements, bank interest statements, real estate tax statements, investments statements, and receipts for charitable donations. Most of the papers/receipts you will file will fall into the following categories: salary, real estate, medical, childcare, and investments.

How Long Should I Keep My Financial Records

First of all, make it a habit to throw away as much as you can that you don't need to keep like the envelopes that come with your statements, your ATM slips after they have been recorded in your check register, credit-card slips (don't forget to shred them if they show your credit card number), utility, phone, and cable bills after you have paid them.

Now, on to the documents you should hang on to. Hang on to all monthly statements of financial accounts (bank, investment, etc.) one year until you reconcile them with the year-end statements. Hang on to federal and state income tax returns and related receipts and statements for at least three years. One investment company recommends keeping all tax returns and related information for six years if there is a possibility you may have under-reported your income by 25% or more. When it comes to business equipment or home improvements, you keep those records as long as you have the item (printer, house, etc.).

Simple Tax Time

Everyone has a different financial situation and these tips are offered as guidelines to simplify tax time. Being organized at tax time and year-round should allow you to lead a calmer life and to have greater control of something that you can, and should, plan for. I hope a few of these tips helped and that you have a stress-free tax season as we head into the next year.

Sheri McConnell is the President of the National Association of Women Writers (http://www.NAWW.org). Inquire about credit card processing equipment and make an informed choice when you decide to purchase.

I. Pervasive Technology

Credit card machines are being used extensively in almost every store and restaurant. These equipments are of great help to businesses as they process credit cards efficiently and securely. There is a huge variety of credit card processing equipment available in the market today and picking the right one appropriate for your business can be a challenge. If you are in the market for a credit card processing equipment, there are some simple tips you can follow to help you find the perfect credit card machine that will serve your intended purpose excellently. With the plethora of credit card machine options available, you might find it hard to decide on what credit card machine to buy. Here’s a simple guide to buying a credit card machine.

II. Buying Advice:

1. Buy, Don't Lease

Credit card machines are not really that costly, usually at the $100-$1000 price range. Consider a credit card machine as a worthwhile investment in your business. Although, there are credit card machine leases available from some merchant account providers. Leasing a credit card terminal may cost you much more in the long run than buying your own unit.

2. Get Battery Backup

Be prepared for any eventuality. In case your store or business establishment experiences a power interruption, you would still want to be able to process customer transactions. Buy a credit card machine with a reliable backup battery to ensure that you can continue to do business even when you lose electrical power.

3. Purchase A Credit Card Machine With A Fast Modem

Credit cards are supposed to make transactions faster and more convenient. Thus, a fast modem that can send data and authorize transactions quickly is a top requirement in a credit card machine. You might shell out more for a credit card machine with a 9600-baud modem, but it is worth the money and our customers will definitely appreciate it too.

4. Ensure It Can Handle Smart Cards

Smart cards are becoming increasingly popular and are considered the future of credit cards. Smart cards include credit, debit, and other information in a card with a microchip in it instead of a magnetic stripe.

5. Flash Memory Is Recommended

For better functionality, choose a credit card machine that use flash memory to store the operating software. This will allow for convenient software downloads and installation and increase the longevity of the equipment.

6. Ensure It Can Handle Debit Transactions

Some customers might prefer paying by debit. For this purpose, you will need a credit card machine with a built-in PIN keypad. You can also consider a separate PIN keypad which your customers can access easily while keeping the credit card processing equipment out of reach.

7. Get An Imprinter As A Backup

This could prove useful in case your store or business establishment loses power or phone service. You can still continue to do business even if you are in the field processing customer transactions.

For more great credit card machine related articles and resources check out http://www.creditcardmachinehq.com

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=John_Morris
http://EzineArticles.com/?Credit-Card-Machine-Buying-Tips&id=151575

The credit card is preferred by most people when paying for purchases and services because of its safety, security and ease of use. So, if a consumer has bought 10 sandwiches from a store with 10 different receipts displaying the full credit card number, the penalty sought would be $10,000.

To prevent the onslaught of these new lawsuits, VISA started to demand its vendors back in 2003 to accept new machines that print only the last four digits of a credit card number. That still remains the legally accepted practice but I personally see quite a few stores still printing their sales receipts the old fashioned way.

I guess it's time to have a friendly talk with the Manager of my Sears store...

**************************************************************************

Ugur Akinci, Ph.D. is a senior writer and web content consultant with 20 years of experience.

Subscribe to his FREE "Weekly Success Update" newsletter today at http://www.writer111.com

P.S. With
the great competition in the credit card market, almost any
credit card company is pushing their card offers almost
anywhere. Especially at certain times of the year like
Christmas time and other holiday shopping seasons or the first
weeks of college and schools etc. They even attatch small
treats if you fill in an application. Should you jump into the
first offer you get and fill in an application form or should
you go home, sit down, relax and think a little before you fill
in a credit card application form? I recommend that you choose
the last mentioned option.

To make a really good deal on credit cards you have to

know which factors that make a good credit card deal

compare different credit card deals or offers

Included on all credit card application forms are parts written
in fine print. Ongoing and enthusiastic salesman or woman will
tell you what a fantastic deal their offer is and will probably
not even mention this print. However, it's you who are signing
the deal and it is your responsibility to know what you're
signing. If you are going to check one single thing, it should
be the APR. Credit companies often tempt you with a low
introductory APR. It is the long term APR you should compare,
not the short term.

Also make sure that you only deal with a serious credit card
company and be aware of scammers. It goes without saying, that
you shouldn't apply for a credit card just because of having
one. Only apply for it if you need it.

Which information do you have to give away when applying for a
credit card? Most credit card companies require as little as

your name

your address

your social security number

any previous addresses you may have had

This information will be sufficient for the credit company to
check out your credit history, which will be the main criteria
for approval or denial. Be aware that the APR will often vary
according to which credit score you have; the higher score the
lower APR. This is the way the credit companies level down the
risk following a low credit score.

Like I said in the beginning of this article you can get credit
card offers almost everywhere. Banks, Credit Companies and other
companies and often with special bonuses at their warehouses and
stores. The easiest way to access whichever credit card company
you prefer is through the internet.

About the Author: Terje Brooks Ellingsen is a writer and
internet publisher. However,
when choosing a new credit card company, many people do not
know what to look for. It is important to have a good company
because bad credit card companies can lead users into quite a
bit of trouble. Whether you are a college student getting your
first credit card, or someone looking to switch, choosing the
company and type is very important. These few tips should help
make your decision easier.

1. Pay attention to interest rates. In truth, all credit card
interest rates are ridiculous. However, it is always a good
idea to choose the best interest rate for your needs. If you
think you may have the potential to miss a payment or two, then
a lower interest rate will suit your needs better than a higher
interest rates. If you are completely confident in your ability
to pay credit card debts off immediately, than interest rates
should not be a problem. Always look for the median interest
rate. Credit card companies offering extremely low interest
rates may have other hidden charges. Extremely high interest
rates are simply nonsensical.

2. The type of credit card must also be taken into account.
Different credit card types have different offers. Major cards
like American Express, Visa, Master Card, and Discover all have
their positive and negative elements. Along with the type comes
the credit card plan. Some credit cards are designed for
college students, and have special bonuses for grades. Other
credit cards offer reward points for shopping at a certain
store. Always go for the credit card promotion that fits you
best. If you eat frequently at a certain restaurant, then maybe
a credit card offering reward points for that restaurant is a
good idea.

3. Keep in mind the bank associated with the credit card, and
the credit card company’s policies on security. Identity theft
is a large issue and continues to increase. Be sure that your
bank has specific security plans to keep your personal
information safe. In the event of credit card fraud, it is
always good to have a company with great identity theft
policies. Some credit card companies will work tirelessly to
correct the identity theft problem and clear your name. Other
companies may not be so eager to give up their time and money
to protect your credit status.

4. Lastly, keep in mind some tricks credit card carriers may
employ. Some banks will attempt to destabilize someone with
good credit by sending their bills at different times. Other
credit card companies will offer great rewards, but have hidden
fees and high interest rates. It is always good to see a
company’s policy on late payment. Some companies will take
advantage of a late payment by raising interest rates
drastically and severely injuring your credit. Never be afraid
to read the fine print of any credit card agreement, because
you might find something that you don’t agree with.

Getting a new credit card can be scary. Credit is a big deal
because it dictates what you are able to borrow and do
financially. However, with careful planning and
decision-making, you will surely get a credit card that is
worth having.

About the Author: John Daley is very interested in financial
topics and gives advice on credit cards. Here are a few of them and how to avoid getting victimized.

Buying Gas - There have been cases where hackers have planted a software “bug” in a gas station machine used to process the credit card payments. The bug then captures any credit card information that is entered. It is not known how widespread this kind of crime is, but a number of cases have been recorded. There is no way for you to tell whether the credit card machine has a bug in it or not. The problem is in the software inside which you cannot see. If you are concerned that your credit card information can be stolen this way, and want to play it safe, then your best approach would be to pay for gas in cash. It is also safer to pay with a gas card rather than using a credit card.

Dining at a Restaurant - Most waiters and waitresses will not be out to steal your credit card information, but if any of them do, there are a number of ways that they can do it. In the first place, if a waiter takes your credit card to bring to the cashier, there is a chance that he may take the credit card information when the card is not in your view, possibly by using an electronic device known as a skimmer. Also, sometimes you may be given a card that is not yours, but looks similar, leaving your card behind where it can be vulnerable to identity thieves. This is a less likely approach as it is easily discovered, but nevertheless, you should always check to see whether the credit card you get back is actually yours. And mistakes are always possible. If you do not want to let your credit card out of your sight, then you should just go to the cashier to make your payment, no matter what other people in the restaurant may think.

Paying at the Cashier - There are email stories about people who pay with a credit or debit card, and the person taking it secretly takes a picture of the card using a camera phone. Although the stories may not be true, such a scam is at least technologically possible. You should always be alert when you are paying with a credit card. Take care that no one nearby is stealing glances at your credit card. Don’t bother to look for a camera--if it is there, you will not see it anyway. Instead, wait for the cashier to ask for your payment and hand it directly to him or her. Don’t just place it on the counter. And don’t let the card out of your sight. Make sure you can see what the cashier is doing with your card.

What Steps Can You Take To Prevent Identity Fraud? Low cost credit card processing involves a cheaper means to accept credit card numbers, apply them to the merchant's account, and obtain payment from the creditor for the amount. A business?s success or failure depends on whether or not it accepts credit card orders.

Low cost credit card processing is indispensable to raise the profitability of your business. Many people waste considerable amounts of money on extravagant processing. Often, processing statements are so difficult to read that it is virtually impossible to estimate how much money you are actually paying. Low cost credit card processing helps you run a more successful business operation.

In the United States, the cost of credit card processing is about $10 to $20 (per month) in flat fees, plus a small percentage of your sales, known as a discount rate. The discount rate is as low as 1.69% for an offline business, while discount rate for mail order and online merchants is about 2.19%. Using a low cost credit card processing technique, the transaction fee averages only about 25 cents for all merchants.

Low cost credit card processing falls into three types. The first is using a virtual terminal that allows manual addition of mail. The second employs a simple integration technique that connects your website directly to the credit card and bank system. The third type uses an advanced mechanism for custom-linking your system to other more composite systems using a transaction gateway server.

Lots of card processing companies offer you reliable, low cost and comprehensive credit card processing. A reliable low cost credit card processing service uses modern encryption technology to ensure security.

Credit Card Processing provides detailed information on Credit Card Processing, Online Credit Card Processing, Credit Card Processing Software, Wireless Credit Card Processing and more. I’m sure you get
them, too. The thing is, you can have terrible credit and still
they flood in. Beware if you just filed bankruptcy because you
will get more of them then you know what to do with!

Credit card debt is all too easy to get into--over and over
again. We don’t feel like we are spending real money until the
bill comes, and then it’s too late. The credit card companies
know how to make it very tempting to fall back on any good
habits we’ve created and just spend away. It’s hard to get away
from, but we have to resist temptation.

When establishing good credit, one of the things we’re told to
do is to get a credit card and then use it to spend wisely.
Experts advise us to pay our bills on time and not to exceed
the credit limit. However, no one really talks to us when we
get that first card about how easily and quickly we hit that
limit, or how easy it is to miss that first monthly payment.
Once you get behind, it can be really hard to catch up.
Oftentimes, credit cards come with introductory interest rates
that are nothing or very low. But many times, those rates soon
change and you can find yourself with a full balance on your
card with an 18 or 20 percent interest rate! That interest rate
can then put you over your limit, if your not paying at least
the minimum payment, now making you susceptible to
over-the-limit fees. Before you know it, you are getting bad
reports on your credit reports for credit card debt on a card
that you haven’t even had very long.

Unfortunately, when times are hard, abusing credit cards is all
too easy. When the economy is bad and cash is tight, you might
find yourself putting your daily living expenses on your credit
cards. If there is any kind of pattern like this in your credit
card spending, it can fill up your credit reports pretty
quickly. When you are not making your payments, the credit card
companies do inquiries to verify your address or other
information. Every time someone makes an inquiry on your credit
report, it makes you look like even more of a high risk, further
worsening your credit report. All the credit card debt on your
report, even if some of it is good, can make you look high risk
for car loans or mortgages – especially if any of those cards
hold high balances. Even worse, that bad credit report can keep
you from renting an apartment or getting a job that requires a
background check.

As tempting as it is to pay with plastic, choose the “debit”
option next time and keep your future in mind. It’s normal to
risk it all when times are tough, but doing so creates more
problems later that can take years with a credit counselor to
fix. Credit card debt has long time risks, but if you use
credit cards wisely, you can build credit that brings rewards
instead.

About the Author: This article provide courtesy of
http://www.debt-removal-guide.com

Source: http://www.isnare.com

My Credit Card Machines 802

Electronic Credit Card Processing
By Thomas Morva

The success of an online business depends on the process of accepting credit card payments. This type of payment permits you to attract both impulsive buyers and casual surfers alike. It also guarantees that you get timely payment.

Electronic credit card processing facilities handle orders directly through the Internet. This is normally a complex deal that needs the coordination of many things such as your website, your consumer?s credit card company, a payment gateway, and an account into which credits are deposited. Electronic card processing is safe and secure, and it provides the best customer service.

Three major types of electronic credit card processing are available. The first type uses a virtual machine that allows manual addition of mail. The second type involves a simple integration technique that links your site directly to the credit card and bank system. The third type uses a means for custom-linking your system to other more complex systems using a transaction gateway server.

Credit cards can be processed either in real-time or in a collective manner (batch processing). Electronic credit card processing generally has excellent real-time processing speed. The business is processed instantly and the consumer knows whether or not his card is accepted. But real-time processing has greater risk of fraud, since anybody can use a stolen card before it is reported stolen. Another disadvantage is that you cannot accept any order when the electronic credit card processor's server fails. Batch processing is ideal for smaller businesses. Here, many credit card transactions are processed jointly at a later time. The risk of fraud is moderately low.

Today, many companies offer fast, reliable and safe electronic credit card processing services. Each will work with almost all major credit cards, including Mastercard, Visa, American Express and Discover.

Credit Card Processing provides detailed information on Credit Card Processing, Online Credit Card Processing, Credit Card Processing Software, Wireless Credit Card Processing and more. Days must be planned with the utmost efficiency in order to keep a law practice running smoothly. Lawyers and attorneys must spend the majority of their time and efforts representing clients; but the day-to-day running of a law office is like any other business.

Clients must be billed, payments tracked and accounts kept up to date, and receiving payments in a variety of formats is time consuming. Sometimes, law firm cash management can be anything but profitable.

It stands to reason that if all of one's time is consumed by business administration issues like collecting on unpaid accounts, banking and so on - this "multi-tasking" will not only waste time, but also cause the firm to actually lose profits for the following reasons:

1. Less time will be spent billing hours and making money

2. Money will be lost on accounts owing, and time will be lost pursuing them

So what's the solution - getting paid up-front, or perhaps using a trust account?

Both of those may be options, but the most adaptable and sensible option is to accept credit cards from your clients. This opens your doors to more clients - as it makes it easier for "cash-strapped" clients to pay legal fees. It also makes it easier to collect on A/R, because you can simply process the payment in a matter of seconds and the issue will be dealt with - instead of waiting for checks, or running all over town to collect them.

However, today's credit card mentality has created a dilemma, particularly for professionals working independently or with small firms and businesses. Typically, the procedure for accepting credit card payments has been fraught with rules, regulations and a lot of stress. And when time is short anyway, the process involved in setting up such a system can seem endless. The costs to set up a "merchant account" can seem intimidating.

Concentrating on a law practice is an ongoing endeavor; but the task of providing credit card acceptance capabilities can be downright overwhelming. The need to know everything there is to know about merchant services has caused thousands of professionals and business hopefuls to throw up their arms in frustration and declare "No credit cards accepted!"

Issues involving statement and transaction fees, in addition to annual fees, programs fees and monthly minimums are enough to annoy anyone, and it doesn't end there. So, in the long run, attorneys lose potential clients desperately in need for attorney services.

Daring souls who brave the murky waves of rules, regulations, waivers and fees to invest in the actual equipment/startup cost needed to perform a credit card transaction still face contracts and agreements for that equipment, and hours of research. Cost for leasing credit card processing tools ranges from $29.00 to $80.00 a month, sometimes more. Lease terms generally run 36-48 months and canceling the lease is often not an option. Once you sign, you're stuck. Leasers must also pay state tax, if applicable, and may also find themselves paying for "Loss or Destruction" of that equipment as well. If you default on your lease, it's your credit report that suffers.

As a result, attorneys often find themselves stuck between a rock and a hard place. And many attorneys, especially those working solo, or even those who belong to small firms, can ill afford to spend hundreds, sometimes thousands of dollars setting up and maintaining a credit card billing system for their business. Yet not doing so can cost them thousands of dollars in earning potential - and in terms of collecting on legal fees owed while simplifying their law firm cash management process overall.

So what to do? What options are out there? Granted, not many. Still, one solution is growing in popularity. It's called mobile credit card processing, and it's a unique service provided by companies like "Accept by Phone". Finally, professionals, especially lawyers, can accept credit cards without the mundane and frustrating hassle of more "traditional" credit card processing methods. Many potential clients, including those going through divorce, those facing criminal charges and whose account assets have been frozen, and countless others seeking the services of an attorney often don't have access to cash or checking accounts. Mobile credit card processing services enable both clients and attorneys to complete payment transactions painlessly with a credit card.

Most mobile credit card processors allow attorneys to accept credit card payments via landline and through cell phones, instantly. No more waiting for checks to arrive and, more importantly, to clear. Credit card payments don't bounce. Using such a service also cuts overhead expenses and eradicates the fees and regulations of more traditional methods.

The catch? Believe it or not, there isn't one. Some services actually cost as little as $5.00 a month (in fees) to use, along with a percentage on each sale (usually ranging from 3.95% to 5%). Most services have no annual fees, no transaction fees, no minimums or volume restrictions. There are no cancellations fees and no terminals needed. And all you need is a phone line, cell phone or a PDA.

How can that be? Besides technology that truly places the world at our fingertips, this "accept by phone" system is very low maintenance for the account provider (financial institution that issues the merchant account), and the account setup/approval cost is minimal in comparison to a traditional account. These services utilize an automated system that enables callers and vendors to complete transactions in a matter of seconds and with a minimum of hassle. And as a result, both the merchant provider and the merchant (you) save big time.

These unique merchant services offer a win-win situation; clients receive immediate legal representation that fits into their financial ability and preference, and attorneys get paid, instantly, just by using their cell phone for 30 seconds - simplifying their law firm cash management struggles in one fell swoop.

What's not to like about that?

Chris Rempel recommends http://www.AcceptByPhone.com, which enables lawyers to accept credit cards using any phone (or cell), for just $5 per month and 3.95% per sale. Find out why Chris and others think this service is the ultimate mobile merchant account service.

For more practical law firm business tips, see my law firm management website.

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Chris_Rempel
http://EzineArticles.com/?A-Mind-Blowing-Secret-About-Law-Firm-Cash-Management&id=416515

My Credit Card Machines 802

Taking Advantage of Online Offers Without Giving Up Your Credit Card Info
By Jeffrey Solochek

My wife works for the local BlockBuster video in town and they are supposed to get people to sign up for an online account but the problem is that a lot of people are afraid to sign up for these things because of fear of having to put their credit card info on the form. With the world coming online credit card fraud is on the increase. How are we able to take advantage of the savings from these online offers without having to give up our personal credit card information?

Whenever I sign up for anything that says it is going to deduct from a credit card I get one of those prepaid credit cards and only put enough on the card to take care of any online obligations. This way I don't have to worry about additional charges or somebody hacking into this companies computers and getting all my information. You would think that stores like Blockbuster Video would sell prepaid credit cards in their stores so that they could offer this option to customers thus increasing the number of online accounts they are taking every day.

Prepaid credit cards is a great way to eliminate the fear of online purchases.. Even when purchasing from a site like Ebay you can make use of these prepaid credit cards. I have very rarely found a site that won't accept the use of a prepaid card. The only card I have ever had refused was one of those prepaid American Express gift cards. My GreenDot card has never been turned down and they don't charge a transaction fee like a lot of cards do.

Another option would be to set up a small savings account at your local bank and get a Visa debit card. The only thing I don't like about these debit cards is it is very hard to ever dispute a transaction on them. A regular credit card will give you usually about 30 days to dispute a transaction whereas Discover card says they will give you 90 days and a friend of mine who has an American Express card says they will allow him to dispute a transaction for a year.

Now I did have a Discover card at one time and I used it to by some software. The software was defective so I disputed the transaction but all Discover Card cared about was that I had received the software. They stated that they did not care that the software did not work that if that were the case I should dispute it directly with the merchant.

Jeffrey has over 2 decades experience in the business world. Convenience, safety and savings. The first time I had to exchange $200 of travelers checks overseas, the bank charged me $8. Later, during the same trip, I used my debit card at an ATM to get $200 from my checking account. The charge was one dollar, and that was the last time I used traveler's checks.

Travel Credit Cards And Debit Cards

It is best to carry a credit card AND a debit card, and keep them well-hidden in two separate places. Bring cards that have either zero liability, or a fifty dollar liability limit for any unauthorized charges. Ask your bank or credit card company about this. Make sure you bring a Visa card, as this seems to be the most widely accepted right now.

Sometimes an Automated Teller Machine (ATM) won't take a card for some reason. Normally, you can use the other card, which will usually work fine. That's the advantage of having two cards. By the way, criminals watch those ATMs, so be especially careful not to flash your money around when you leave an ATM.

For most travel, credit cards may be less trouble than debit cards. They can be replaced quickly if stolen. On your stolen debit card, your liability might be zero, but you probably won't have access to your account until the matter is sorted out.

On the other hand, on longer trips it's a hassle to pay the credit card bill on time, which isn't a problem with debit cards. That's another reason to carry both. On longer trips you can wait until you're a few weeks from home to use the credit card, and you'll get there before the bill does.

Another advantage travel credit and debit cards have over traveler's checks, is that when you need the local currency, you'll almost always get a better exchange rate with your cards. Plus, the cash you get from the local ATM will truly be accepted everywhere, something no traveler's checks can promise.

Be sure to call your credit card company or bank before you travel overseas. They may decline your card when you try to use it otherwise. Just let them know where you'll be and for aproximately how long. E-mail yourself the phone numbers to call in case of loss or theft, so you can get them from anywhere in the world.

To sum up : Use cards with low liability, high enough limits for your trip, and hide them well on your body. These are the requirements for good travel credit cards.

Steve Gillman hit the road at sixteen, and traveled the U.S. and Mexico alone at 17. Now 40, he travels with his wife Ana, whom he met in Ecuador. I am an infomercial junkie. I admit it. I have a problem. Marketers have found a way around my natural male tendency to hate shopping by bringing the stores right into my living room; and I have been easy prey for them.

I think the word "junkie" has never been used more appropriately then when assigned to those who routinely watch infomercials, as my closets are full of useless and unneeded "junk". Eventually, that junk will find its way to the front line of a yard sale, but until that time it remains a testimony to my addiction. More evidence of my dependency exists in the homes of friends and family, which are littered with hand-me-down exercise machines that I excitedly bought but had no use for.

Quick thinking allowed me to pass on my "good fortune" to them before they realized they were enabling my problem. I suppose that I would never have perpetrated these dastardly deeds on family if the machines could have been sold at a yard sale. Unfortunately, supply and demand are in a great imbalance for these items as countless other junkies are unsuccessfully offering their machines in their own yard sales just down the block.

I know you are laughing at me and I deserve it. However, I will bet that yours is a nervous laughter because you know that you are as guilty as I. You too are an infomercial junkie. You hate to admit it, but you are. Your closets are full. Your friends have been duped. You may try to deny it, but your next credit card bill and your next yard sale will be all the proof anyone needs to convict you of having your own problem.

Am I saying that all infomercials offer useless and inferior products? I am not. There are some great products out there, but there are some real losers too. I don't know how many times I shocked myself with one device before the federal government came out and told the public that it was a pipe dream. In my mind I salvaged my dignity by telling my wife "I knew it all along", but I think she is the one who knew…knew better.

There are great diet plans and get rich quick ideas too. I have not had a lot of success at the former, but the latter has proven quite beneficial to me. I have spent a lot of money on real estate infomercials and made my investment back many times over. I have also had the pleasure of meeting some of the real estate gurus who grace our living rooms on these television spots.

Whether a product, service or idea works for you depends on a lot of factors. Some of those would be:

• Do you really need it or are you buying on a whim?

• Is it right for you? If you weigh 350 pounds can you really see yourself mounting a tiny little exercise apparatus successfully?

• If you are allergic to peanuts, is that nut and berry diet a good idea?

The point is, don't allow yourself to be impulsive. Infomercial products are generally good things if you need them. Therein is the key…if you need them. Impulsiveness is the life-blood of infomercials. Why do you think there are so many full-length programs with motivational orators hosting them? They know that hype will move people to be impulsive. Discipline yourself. Before you start watching an infomercial that may interest you, ask yourself "Do I need this product or service?" If the answer is "no", then turn it off before the hook is set.

My experience as an infomercial junkie has led me to finally develop a fool-proof process to determine if I need a product or not. It works every time, all the time. I ask my wife. You'll be happy to know that my closets are now empty and my friends and family don't mind visiting anymore.

The author is a retired Coast Guard Officer with over 32 years of service. A Credit Card Processing Provider is a company that manages the interface between your credit card terminal or shopping cart software and the Visa/Master network.

Since you are paying a portion of each credit card transaction to your credit card processing provider, it is important that you fully understand the services that your provider offers and how much you are going to pay for these services.

The rate that you will be charged depends upon many factors including the type of product or service you sell and the amount of the average sales transaction. Using this information you can shop around to find a credit card processing provider that offers you the best value for the least money.

For example, if you sell mostly high-ticket items you may be better off finding a provider that will offer you a higher flat-rate transaction fee and a lower discount rate. It may be better for you to pay as much as a $1.00 per-transaction fee when combined with a lower discount if your profit margin can handle it. On the other hand, if you sell a lot of low-priced items, you are better off finding a provider that offers a very low per-transaction fee and a discount rate somewhere in the area of 2.5% or less.

Be Prepared To Pay A Penalty For Poor Credit

If your personal or business credit is below par, you are not going to be able to negotiate much in the way of processing and transaction fees. If that’s the case, look for credit card processing providers that work with people who are in your particular credit situation. But don’t go with the first one that makes you an offer. Even though you may not be able to negotiate, you can still shop around for the best deal.

Look For Technical Integration Issues

Your online ordering software needs to be able to communicate seamlessly with your credit card processing provider’s software through a program that is known as a “Gateway.” Not all providers offer gateways that are compatible with all shopping carts. Make sure that yours is.

Evaluate Your “Risk”

There are a number of credit card processing providers that will not do business with start-up companies or companies that serve certain markets such as the Adult Entertainment or Gambling industry.

Be prepared to pay higher fees if you are in those industries and be prepared to spend some time finding a credit card processing provider that is willing to serve you. The best way to find one that serves your industry is to check your competitors’ sites and see which providers they are using.

Do You Need International Processing?

If your business has a global presence that requires you to handle credit card transactions from outside of your home country, you are going to need an international credit card provider.

Some merchants choose one provider for their domestic transactions and another for their international transactions since the fees are usually higher when the customer is from another country.

Your best advice is to shop around, read the contract carefully and completely before signing, and have your attorney and accountant review all of the paperwork before you commit. That way you’ll know for sure what you are agreeing to and you’ll have a much better chance of running a profitable business when you can control your credit card processing costs.

This article has been provided by Creditor Web.
